富士山下的小村庄正在进行热闹的祭典，突如其来的山火却让人们陷入恐慌之中，而天文学家白石良一（平田昭彦 饰）则在混乱中失踪。不久，当地发生滑坡、天坑等离奇事件，更有一个巨大、恐怖的机器人出现，对周遭城镇进行大肆破坏。白石的朋友渥美让治（佐原健二 饰）和安达谦治郎博士（志村喬 饰）随同军队前往当地调查，意外遭遇外星人的球形基地，并受到对方的邀请。外星人声称很久以前他们的星球因核战而毁灭，幸存者在宇宙间流浪寻找合适的栖息地。他们希望地球人开辟半径为3公里的土地给外星人居住，并准许他们和地球的女性通婚。人类对此表示拒绝，并组成地球防卫军和星外来客展开对抗…… 本片为东宝首部采用宽银幕的特摄作品。。SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。
